Amadis Nicolas ‘Swiss Chocolate’ Dunkel trombone - composer, arranger, educator and band leader

Born in 1973 in Càdiz (Spain), grows up in Basel (Switzerland) and Venice (Italy). Picks up trombone at age twelve. Plays in numerous Jazz-, Funk-, Blues- and Latin-ensembles as a teenager. Studies trombone and composition/arranging with Calvin Jones in Washington, DC, USA, piano and theory with Judith Korey, Hildred Roach and Harvey VanBuren, Bass with Steve Novasel. Nationally televised appearance on BET (Black Entertainment Television) as soloist of the University Big Band. Graduates from the University of the District of Columbia cum laude. Since 1995 freelance musician in Washington DC and New York. Dunkel has worked with Butch Warren, Webster Young, Lawrence Wheatley, Lincoln Ross, Nasser Abade, Curtis Lundi, Ralph Peterson, René McLean, Allan Palmer, Joost Kesselaar e.a. Since 2004 he is active in the Swiss jazz scene with numerous performances and festival appearances with his Octet, as well as in trio and quartet settings. Clyde Reese Adams II drums

Clyde Adams was born in 1976. The young Texas native picks up drums at age ten and attends HPVHS, the renown performing and visual arts high school in Houston, Texas. Upon his graduation he moves to Washington DC in order to pursue his studies at Howard University. Adams is a very sought after drummer well beyond the Washington DC and Houston scenes, known for his modern, subtle, and always swinging approach. He has been working with Bobby Lyle, Frank Foster, Benny Golson, Keter Betts, Charlie Young, David Craig, Antonio Parker, Stan Killian, The Champion Sisters to name but a few. contact

Daniel Blanc alto saxophone, flute - band leader, educator

Blanc`s subtle expressive, sound which is well known all over Switzerland, will undoubtedly remind the aficionado of all time alto greats, such as Johnny Hodges. Thanks to his tone and his ability to play „lead“, Blanc has become the sideman of choice for many: Joe Haider George Gruntz, Lars Lindvall to name but a few. The result is a long list of concerts, festival appearances, and recordings. Certainly a major player in the Swiss jazz scene, Blanc is also a great educator, currently teaching at the „Jazzschule Basel“, where he has generations of young musicians under his tutelage. contact

Oliver Friedli piano - band leader and composer

Oliver Friedli, born in 1977 in Zürich, Switzerland, studies piano in Switzerland at the Lucerne Jazz School and later continues his studies at the „Berklee School of Music“ in Boston. There he gets a chance to study with William Evans and the legendary bass player Ray Brown. Alex Hendriksen saxophones, flute - educator, band leader, and clinician

Alex Hendriksen, a native of Basel, Switzerland, was born in 1975. He picks up saxophone at the age of 14, attends the "Jazzschule Basel" and later continues his studies at the "Berklee College of Music" in Boston where he studies among others with George Garzone, Bill Pierce, Frank Tiberi and Hal Crook. Upon his graduation in September 1997, he returns to his hometown where he becomes a „young lion“ in the Swiss jazz scene. Apart from leading his own quartet he performs and records regularly with a variety of groups ranging from straight ahead jazz to funk, blues, Latin, and hip-hop: „The Meier Group“, „David Regan Orchestra“, „Bre Blues", "Saxophelia", "Baja-Quartett", "Q-No", „Amadis Dunkel Octet“. He has appeared at the Festival de Bulle and at the Festival de Montreux. contact

Alex Hilbe saxophones and flute - composer, educator

Alex Hilbe, born in 1965 in Basel, Switzerland, attends the renown Bruckner conservatory in Linz, Austria. He studies and works with internationally known personalities of both the classical and Jazz idioms: Steve Coleman, Bobby Watson, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano Bill Pierce, Dave Liebman, TerriLyne Carrington, Anthony Jackson, Wofgang Muthspiel, Andy Middleton, Adelhard Roidinger, Peter O'Mara, Chrisrian Muthspiel, Doug Hammond, Harry Sokal, Allan Praskin, Heinrich von Kalnein, Ingrid Jensen ea. In a 1996 post-graduate semester at the University of Bahia (UFBA), Brazil, he continues his studies of composition and Brazilian Traditional Music. While in Brazil he also works with the composer Angelo de Castro and the "Na Cara Da Lua" group. Several multimedia projects are the result of Hilbe’s extensive work with computer music and sound design. "Iya Ago" (1997 in cooperation with Ana Baldini and Marcilio dos Santos) and „Espestro de Cores“(2001, commissioned by the Brazilian-Swiss Cultural Festival „Arco Iris“). Besides his successful career as a free-lance saxophonist, flutist and composer, Hilbe is also a sought-after educator, currently teaching in Freiburg, Aarau, Dornach as well as at Jazzschule Basel. contact

Corcoran Holt bass

Corcoran Holt starts a classical education at the DC youth Orchestra at the age of ten and later attends Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington DC. There he begins playing jazz, studying with renown teachers such as Carolyn Kellock, Keter Betts and Steve Novasel. While at Ellington he also tours Austria, Germany, France, London, and Jamaica. He continues his studies at the Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia where he completes a Bachelors Degree in Jazz Studies. Holt has been a regular in the Washington DC Jazz scene for at least seven years - even throughout college. More recently Holt is working with greats such as Curtis Fuller, Wallace Roney, Javon Jackson, John Hicks, Carl Allen and Charles Davis. He has spent the last two summers in Senegal, performing in Dakar, and - leading his own group - at the St. Louis Jazz Festival. contact

Daniel Schluchter saxophones - educator

Daniel Schluchter actually started his career as keyboard player and singer in the pop group „Clinch,“ and as an actor. It is only a few years later that he turns his full attention to Jazz music, completing his education at the Jazzschule Basel. Schluchter has since been very active as a musician and as an educator. He performs with numerous groups: The BSO Big Sound Orchestra, Thomas Moeckels JSB, David Regan Orchestra, SOS Big Band, Big Stream Big Band, Detto Fatto Group, Mind The Gap, Jazz Lounge Quartet, as well as in musicals and theater productions. contact
